Try that homey.... I didn't think so....
Cool idea! I think you could get even more out of it using Mqtt and node red instead of dongle.
hey paul. just a quick question.... i have the same keyboard that you use, and when i trigger a number it shows 3 triggers. is this correct? i have found that if you push numlock it makes the presses have 3 triggers per push
Not sure, it’s possible that I did but didn’t notice. I’m assuming one of those 3 is unique to that key press?
I legit do the “HOME ASSISTANT!” bit voice every time it comes up in conversation… thank you for that. My wife doesn't quite understand the random hip thrusting, but that's fine…
Fucken hell mate! I would love to know how many men have responded with violence in self defense . . . Where are these statistics when we talk about domestic violence
Still needs the fish tank!!! 1/10 lol jk. Looks awesome! Happy birthday to your little one!
Hilarious.
This is great. I hate using voice to control things.
Good, good…. Hehehe. He has finally embraced the dark side. Kidding aside I love to see these DIY projects.
You can add all key presses into one automation, set each trigger with an ID, and the action trigger based on ID. Better than creating dozens of automations.
Thanks mate! Is it as searchable that way though? By categorising my automations I can collapse them but still search for the individual components if and when I want to change something
@@paulhibbert hmmm, good question 🤔. All buttons triggers and actions sit under one automation, and I've not used search or categorisation yet on my HA?! ....maybe?! 🤷🏻♂️🤣
I got the keyboard and got it working. Range is a bit limited - HA is in study and signal does not reach to livingroom. So now I need to work out a usb to wifi solution.
Let me know if you find something. It was only after I created this tutorial that I realised I am occasionally struggling with range too. I am one room away and it works great, but not 100%
Microsoft isn't on the ball enough to do anything game changing with ChatGPT and link it to the smarthome in any compelling way. This is a company that tried to make a smartphone for teens that didn't have text capabilities. They think I want AI taking screenshots of everything I do on my PC (using up all the resources). I could see them having every advantage and head start on their side... and STILL fumbling. They will make the Windows 8 of smart homes, then spend a decade back-tracking.
I instantly ordered a keypad. It arrived and I recreated it. It's awesome! 🎉 Exactly what I needed! Feels like a streamdeck on steroids!
Amazing!! Love it! ❤️
Congrats!!!
Great video and love all the jokes lol. What did you use to create all the stickers? May add this project to the list. Def need the stickers for wife approval factor lol.
I spent quite a bit of time in photoshop unfortunately making careful measurements before I started. Then just searched out the logos and icons I wanted. Generated a couple of them using bing ai image generator. Printed them in some vinyl paper and then spent ages cutting them out!
@@paulhibbert Thanks for the quick response and info! Now that I think about it...I think I will entice my wife to use her cricut machine to create and print the stickers lol.
I was able to use this to connect an old windows media center remote and control things with it. Love being able to put to use old hardware that has been sitting in the closet for years. 😀
That’s awesome!! 😳
This is well cool and so much more convenient than a tablet. I've found a rechargeable wireless numeric keypad with a track pad on it so I'm hoping I can create the mother of all TV remotes that will firmly pass the Wife Test so she doesn't phone me every time I'm out to tell her how to turn on the TV
Great video! Have you done a video on your air con and how it works with home assistant?
Nice room! You need that captain’s chair
Anyone else have distance issues? Getting very limited range.
The first routine I ever created was for night feeds. It would turn the lamp on where my partner fed our son and start playing a playlist of stuff that he enjoyed listening to. Barely worth being called a routine, it's still the only home automation thing that my partner has ever appreciated.
Very happy with the Ryan George reference. Ryan George references are tight!
It was no effort to include it, it was super easy…
Paul, thank you for this integration it works very well and i have made use of it in my office
So good to hear man, thanks for letting me know!
hope your paternity is going well. This is actually really handy. duly saved
thanks so much , just started using my ps4 controller on pc and was looking for just this, ds4 lets you make macros, i leave it laying on my desk and use analog sticks navigate tabs and scroll ,close tabs , d pad is now turns on/off my tv and light
You are not alone mate. The physical abuse is horrible but it pales in comparison to the mental and emotional abuse that comes with it. The “walking on eggshells” out of fear of upsetting her is emotionally exhausting and very damaging to one’s self esteem. Many men are in emotionally abusive relationships but, and when kids are in the picture, they have little choice but to stay and endure the abuse else lose daily interaction with their children when the mother gets custody. Worse, women will use the threat of taking the kids away from the father to blackmail them into mental, emotional, and financial subservience.
Let's wait for the switchbot dustbin 😊 😂
Blueprints are a great way to make automations and integrations like this easier to reference, modify, and reuse in the future. Excellent video!
No Z-Wave?!?
We should all be eternally grateful that we do not have to risk encountering this guy when we are condemned to contact a call center. Keep him employed doing this.
very much appreciate! thks
Ive definitely seen that head before, think it was on a video about retro gaming
starting in the home automation world being an engineer and programmer, and it still seems very confusing... im looking into a sonoff smart water valve, since aqara doesnt seem to have one... im still confused if i will be able to connect it to the aqara hub and use it ... i say only certain third party devices are supported, and even then the compatibility is in Labs or Beta mode... do you know that this means?
Congratulations Daddy 👍
I would like something like this but without being virgin again, sorry, i meant without using home assistant 😅
I have been wanting to find a cheap physical button solution for lights. This works perfectly. I'm not enjoying my current tablet dashboard and I think this is going to replace that. Smaller footprint and the satisfaction of a physical press. Thanks for putting this out there.
Would any wireless kyboard work
Is there anything that could do this that is Bluetooth or wifi, I want to make one for both my kids rooms, and I don't think the isg (thanks Paul) will deal with multiple of these
Amazing! Where did you get the stickers from?
Tell you've a baby now, pint glass by the bed 😂
This is waaaay cheaper than the Stream Deck I recently set up to do this kinda thing 🤑 Clever Idea though, I used those 12 actions/4 buttons zigbee light remotes for this before, but remembering what does what is a pain, having images is a nice upgrade 🤩
Congratulation...Neesha and good luck now u have two babies in the house. Please don't let Paul grow up too fast we love him just the way he is. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great video. However, a year ago if someone would have told me I would be learning YAML from Paul, I would have laughed.
Fantastic idea! think I may do something like this myself, just wondering what the range for the dongle is like?
i bought myself a keyboard like this, tested and working beautiful. i will buy another one to have 2 "remotes" for more buttons, thanks for this great find. love it!
Now I have to do this! Thank you! I hope you get some rest and enjoy your break!
"And the toaster needs to stop looking at me!!" absolutely SENT me. xD This is an amazing device I could see myself recommending to my parents; this is so good! However: Is the HASS reachable over the network? So I can configure stuff via my PC? Otherwise I'll just see if I can get some remote ADB-based screen viewing (scrcpy) going. Lastly, what ports does it have? Can I possibly extend it with other dongles in the future?
Small tip for optimised monetisation: don't let the marks know you have more TV subscriptions than they have!
Totally unrelated question......where did you get the backlit Star Trek Insignia wall deco from? Looks sooooo coool
Thanks dude! It’s a highly customised version of something I bought from Etsy. I talk about it a bit in this video: Garage Star Trek Conversion + INSANE Automations! ruclips.net/video/UH79qBuivm0/видео.html
I have a number of simple very small button pads around the house for various things. I have one each at my desk and my wife's desk for controlling the lights (including a toggle for Zoom Meeting mode where it switches off the overhead light which casts a glare and turns on all the other ambient lights so you can still see us in the webcams.) There are also one each in our upstairs bedroom to control the lighting and ceiling fan in each room. It's not that folks can't do this on their phones. (I do have a very nice dashboard for complete control.) but this eliminates the need to take out the phone for such simple operations. The PI+numeric pad is a great idea if you need more things than fit on an 8- or 4-button little pad. I'm using Lutron Casetta pads and RM433 pads because I already have the receivers that translate button presses so Home Assistant can see them and trigger toggles and automations. The programming is the same process as your keypad, but with different events and different codes. I also get events for both press and release. Thanks for the tutorial. In spite of the microphone thing, it was fun to watch and informative.
Thanks as always man! Your setup sounds really cool!
